Understanding Albums and Galleries

XO Gallery organizes your visual content using a flexible two-layer structure: Albums and Galleries. This setup helps you manage large collections of media efficiently while keeping your storefront layout clean and engaging.

Album

An Album is a container that holds multiple Galleries. Use Albums to group related galleries together – for example, organizing by product line, theme, season, or campaign. Albums give customers an easy way to navigate between visual collections without cluttering individual pages.

Each Album can be customized with its own cover image and hover effects. When visitors view an Album, they’ll see a preview of its galleries and can click through to explore each in detail. Albums also support search and filter functions, ensuring that customers can quickly find the galleries that match their interests.

Typical uses:

  • Grouping Spring, Summer, and Fall lookbooks
  • Organizing product galleries by brand or collection
  • Creating a “Projects” section with multiple sub-galleries

A Gallery is where your actual media content lives. Each gallery contains a series of Cards, and each Card displays both its Media Layer and Reveal Layer. Galleries define how media is visually displayed on your store—through different layout options such as Grid, Masonry, Stack, Justified, Carousel, Slider or Marquee.

Each Gallery can have its own:

  • Layout style (to match your brand’s look)
  • Filters for easy browsing
  • Lightbox or link options for full-size viewing
  • Custom hover effects and media descriptions
  • And more

Galleries and Albums can be embedded on any Shopify page, product, or blog post, allowing you to use them flexibly throughout your site.
